“Big Rigg” Waiver Wire Pickups for Week #12
Nobody really emerged this week due to injury other than Samaje Perine’s explosion after Chris Thompson went down for the year with a broken leg against the Saints. That being said, there are a few viable options out there on the waiver wire worth consideration this week, but the focus on this article are the young guys out there who may earn or be handed a larger role down the stretch.
Andy Dalton is the QB pickup of the week if you don’t have a stud QB and are streaming. Dalton plays vs the Cleveland Browns this week and is only owned in 51% of Yahoo leagues. Earlier in the season Dalton threw for 286 yards and 4 TD’s against them and there’s no reason to think he can’t come through again. Given the Bengals offensive line woes, they aren’t likely to gain much traction on the Browns solid run defense, meaning Dalton will need to throw.
Joe Flacco plays vs Houston this week and is owned in 14% of Yahoo leagues. I really don’t like Flacco, I really don’t. You can only play Flacco if you are in pure desperation mode. Although the thought of playing Flacco this week may make you ill, the Texans have given up an average of 3 passing touchdowns and over 300 yards passing over their last 4 games.
Blaine Gabbert faces off vs Jacksonville this weekend so he’s not a good week 12 option. However, after going for 257 yards and 3 TD’s against Houston, Gabbert remains owned in 3% of Yahoo leagues and could be a solid option for you down the stretch if you are streaming QB’s. After the tough matchup this week, Gabbert has the Rams, Titans, Redskins and Giants, all of which are beatable matchups.
Tyrod Taylor plays @ the Kansas City Chiefs this week and is owned in 40% of Yahoo leagues. The Nate Peterman experiment failed. The Chiefs have given up the third most points to QB’s this season and some of the best performances turned in by opposing QB’s have been from mobile ones, which Taylor is. Stay tuned, because Taylor is only a viable option if Peterman is indeed benched. The Chiefs have been solid against the tight end and Kelvin Benjamin isn’t likely to play, so if Taylor comes through he will do so with his legs and by throwing to the likes of LeSean McCoy, Zay Jones and Deonte Thompson.
Jacoby Brissett isn’t the greatest fantasy QB but if you’re desperate, he has been putting up QB2 numbers on the season. Brissett plays vs the Tennessee Titans this week and he is only owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues. All it takes is one big play for Brissett to connect with TY Hilton or Donte Moncrief for him to come through, but at the same time, if he doesn’t hit that big play he is likely to be a dud, making him a scary option this week.
Corey Coleman is owned in 32% Yahoo leagues and is coming off a 6 catch 80 yard effort against a tough Jaguars secondary. Deshone Kizer is a deep ball throwing QB and Coleman can run. When you factor that with the fact that he’s by far the most talented Browns pass catcher outside of Duke Johnson, Coleman is a must own. Coleman is likely owned in more savvy leagues, but it’s worth your time to check your waiver wire.
Corey Davis has disappointed so far this season but this week he plays @ Indianapolis who have given up the 6th most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Davis is only owned in 51% of Yahoo leagues and the talent is there, so it’s worth a glance at your waiver wire to see if he’s there.
Dontrelle Inman is owned in 13% of Yahoo leagues and is coming off a down week for the Bears against the Lions, drawing Darius Slay in coverage. He is likely to rebound this week against the Eagles as long as he doesn’t draw shadow coverage from Ronald Darby. Inman is the only viable receiver on the Bears roster.
Chad Williams – WR Arizona Cardinals – Williams is owned in 0% of Yahoo leagues. The 6’1″ 204 pound 3rd round pick out of Grambling State is the only receiver on the Cardinals roster with any size other than Larry Fitzgerald. At a certain point, the Cardinals may go into evaluation mode and decide they need to evaluate their future at the wide receiver position. Williams is worth an add in deeper dynasty leagues.
ArDarius Stewart – WR NY Jets – Stewart is owned in 0% of Yahoo leagues. Stewart is a 5’11” 204 pound 3rd round pick out of Alabama with speed. Similar to Chad Williams, if the 4-6 Jets decide to start evaluating their young receivers, Stewart may get a shot to show off what he can do.
Zay Jones caught 6 of 7 targets for 53 yards and a TD against the Jets the week before the Bills traded for Kelvin Benjamin, but with Benjamin injured and likely to miss time, Jones may re-emerge as the Bills #1 WR. Jones is only owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues and could be viable if you’re desperate.
Josh Doctson plays vs the NY Giants this week and is only owned in 27% of Yahoo leagues. Doctson’s target share has been holding steady as of late, seeing 7 targets in the game against New Orleans this weekend, securing 4 of them for 81 yards with a long of 32 yards. Doctson gets a fairly favorable matchup this week against the Giants and he hasn’t scored since October 29th, so he’s due. A breakout is coming, get on him now.
Marquise Goodwin is owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues and has only hauled in 23 of his 56 targets on the year for 500 yards and 1 TD. The sub 50% catch rate is a little concerning, but the fact is that the 49ers lost Pierre Garcon for the year and all it takes is 1 big catch for Goodwin to come through. If desperate, or if you’re in a deeper league, Goodwin could be a viable option for you.
Kenny Stills plays @ the New England Patriots this week and is only owned in 37% of Yahoo leagues. Stills has 63 targets on the season and is being used as more than just a deep threat for once. Matt Moore really likes this guy, throwing to Stills 9, 10 and 8 times in the 3 appearances he’s made this season so if Cutler isn’t cleared from his concussion, Stills looks extremely viable.
Samaje Perine is an obvious waiver wire add this week, especially after Chris Thompson went down with a broken leg. Perine plays vs the NY Giants this week and is owned in only 33% of Yahoo leagues. Perine figures to be the bell cow back for the Redskins moving forward unless the team adds some depth behind him.
TJ Logan – RB Arizona Cardinals – Logan, a rookie 5th round pick impressed in the preseason but he broke his wrist early. Logan was placed on IR and could be returning after the Andre Ellington’s release. This is pure speculation, but in deep dynasty leagues, he is worth a bench stash, especially since the Cardinals aren’t likely to bring Adrian Peterson back and don’t really have anybody else to fill the void moving forward.
Jonathan Stewart is not an exciting option at the running back position but he’s only owned in 36% of Yahoo leagues and he’s the Panthers goal line back outside of Cam Newton. Other than Stewart’s 100 yard performance against the Dolphins week 10, Stewart is extremely touchdown dependent, but at this point in the season, you may be desperate and there are worse options.
Chris Carson could return to the Seahawks lineup in the next few weeks and he’s only owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues. If you have a bench spot you can burn or an IR spot and you are weak at the position, it may be worth a shot to take a chance on Carson hoping he returns down the stretch. Adding Carson would be a dart throw at best, because there are conflicting reports whether he will be able to return.
DeAndre Washington is owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues. Washington has 36 carries for 102 yards on the year, along with 25 catches for 146 yards. Washington has 2 total touchdowns and if the Raiders continue to lose, they may want to evaluate what they have in Washington for the future.
Devontae Booker is only owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues and his role looks to be expanding down the stretch. Jamaal Charles only played 4 snaps last week and is on the wrong side of 30 years old. With the Broncos season lost, they may take an extended look at Booker down the stretch.
Marlon Mack is only owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues and is the clear future in Indianapolis. If Mack isn’t owned in dynasty or keeper formats yet, he needs to be.
Gio Bernard is the clear handcuff to Joe Mixon now that Jeremy Hill is on injured reserve. If Mixon were to go down, Bernard could be a league winner for you down the stretch. Bernard is only owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues. Mixon owners should place a higher priority on Bernard than non-Mixon owners.
Elijah McGuire is the only running back on the Jets roster that hasn’t nursed injuries throughout the year and similar to many of the aforementioned backs, the Jets may look to evaluate what they have in McGuire down the stretch rather than roll out the soon to be 32 year old Matt Forte and the 29 year old Bilal Powell. If all 3 running backs are healthy and active it’s hard to trust any of them, but out of all 3, I would rather own the younger, more explosive back. McGuire is owned in 6% of Yahoo leagues.
Tyler Kroft faces off vs the Cleveland Browns this week who have given up the 3rd most points to the position. Kroft is only owned in 45% of Yahoo leagues and is a good bet to score a TD as the Browns have given up a TD to tight ends in each of the last 3 games. However, you need to monitor Kroft’s status because he injured his hand against the Broncos this weekend and was sporting a cast on his hand in the 2nd half.
CJ Uzomah is the backup tight end for the Bengals and is owned in 0% of Yahoo leagues. If Kroft can’t go, Uzomah will make a decent desperation play.
Adam Shaheen is owned in 0% of Yahoo leagues and now has 7 catches for 82 yards and 2 TD’s on the year. Since Zach Miller went down, Shaheen, who is 6’6″ and 270 pounds, an absolute monster, has been a viable option in the redzone for the Bears.
